Hi! My name is Jonathan. Welcome back to Abington Public Library for another segment of APL Book Bites, where we review some of our favorite books and more.

Today, I’ve got in hand a copy of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The best selling novel that gave way to not only several sequels and major motion pictures but a decade of imitators trying to strike gold just like The Hunger Games. Many already know the story of Katniss Everdeen and the 74th annual Hunger Games, but I will run through a quick recap. Published in 2008, the story follows a young girl named Katniss after she takes her sister’s place in the yearly Hunger Games, a gladiatorial battle royale between two teenage conscripts from each of the twelve districts of Panem. Katniss must fight for survival and with enemies on all sides it is up to Katniss to know who to trust, who to call friend and who might end up stabbing her in the back. Even almost twenty years later Collins is still responsible for so many readers falling in love, or reacquainting themselves with reading.
