Hi! My name is Jonathan. Welcome back to Abington Public Library for APL Book Bites, a new program here at the APL where we review some of our favorite books and more.
This highlight is a book I have read cover to cover a handful of times over the last 8 or so years since I was introduced to it in college, with me I have Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Published in 2015, Braiding Sweetgrass details the reciprocity of the relationship between the natural world and the man-made world. Combining her scientific knowledge as a botanist with the traditional wisdom of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation to create a united understanding of the relationships humans have with the plants and animals and the lessons they can share with us. Most recently I listened to Kimmerer narrate the book herself and she is as talented an orator as she is a writer. The audiobook is available on Hoopla with your library card and we have several copies available here at the APL including a newer edition designed for young adults. So as the spring comes around, if you or any one you know wants to reconnect with the natural world, check out this piece of awesome writing.
This has been APL Book Bites, brought to you by the Abington Public Library. Thanks for spending a moment with us and we’ll see you next time! Bye!
