Dates to Remember

  • Our last week for special summer programming will be the week of August 11.
  • Family Mini-Golf with One-Up Games: Wednesday, August 13 from 4-6 PM.
  • The last day for ReadSquared logging is Friday, August 16.  How many minutes have you read this summer?

It’s True!
You don’t have to be a “reader” to spend time at the Abington Public Library. There is always a puzzle to be done, coloring pages waiting to be filled in and board games at the ready.  If we don’t have an event happening, our larger spaces are often opened up and ready for fun.  You might even find a cornhole game happening in the Copeland Room. If you are a fan of books, we would love to see your favorite recommendations.  Check the display at the front of the library to see how you can participate!

We are rounding the final corner….
…and the finish line is in sight. Our fantastic summer readers are more than halfway to our community goal of 2000 hours and every minute counts as we read to adopt an Emu and a Slow Loris. Haven’t signed up yet? It’s not too late!  You can log through ReadSquared or at one of our logging stations located throughout the library.

Little Bee Yoga

Monday, August 11, 3:45 PM
Ages 3-5 with a caregiver

Drop-in and join Christine Walker from the Little Bee Yoga Company for a 45-minute yoga class geared towards our littlest library users. This class incorporates cardio conditioning, fun music, stories, and teaches children (and their grownups) the benefits of traditional yoga: meditation, breathing techniques, peace and relaxation. Ms. Christine is a certified and insured Children’s Yoga instructor. All participants will need to bring a yoga mat/towel and wear comfy clothes! This program is funded by the Friends of the Library.

Mr. Vinny

Saturday, August 16, 10-11:30 AM
Rain or Shine, Hot or Not!

Our warm and wacky weather has definitely given us all something to talk about this summer, but we aren’t going to let any conditions stop us from welcoming Mr. Vinny back for some fun. We hope to enjoy a whole lot of BUBBLES on the field on 8/16, but if the weather conditions aren’t right, we will be shifting our program to a Shadow Puppet show inside the library.  Either way, it is sure to be a great morning!  Check our website and/or Facebook page for more information on the day of the program.

Looking For More?

We have a whole host of amazing activities scheduled this month.  Swing by the Children’s Room to pick up a calendar or check out our online event calendar HERE. We also have games and activities set up to help you beat the heat.  It might get warm outside, but the APL is where all the cool people like to hang out!

Free Stuff! Act Now, Don’t Delay!

That’s right.  Need a book, audiobook or article for school?  We can help!  There’s a small catch, though. Right before the school year begins we often have multiple people looking for copies of the same book (principles of supply and demand, anyone?) and they often need it ASAP.  Sometimes we can make magical things happen.  Other times, not so much.  If you need a book for your summer reading, now is the time to grab it!  We have some local school lists for your reference in the YA room. Need help?  Just ask!

Teen Photography Display

Our teens met in July for a brief photography talk, before heading out with cameras or phones in hand to capture their favorite views both inside and outside the library.

Each photographer was encouraged to capture and submit at least one photo of:

  • something that is alive
  • an image highlighting lights and shadows
  • their interpretation of the summer reading theme “Level Up at Your Library”

These photos are now on display outside the YA room.  We encourage everyone to have a look!

Just Books and Crafts
No Baking and No Beyond

Our August book clubs are hot, hot, hot with their amazing selections.  Our Popular Fiction group will “meet” on Wednesday, August 6 at 7 PM on Zoom and our Nonfiction Book Club will meet on Wednesday, August 27 at 7 PM in the library. Both books are linked to our catalog for easy browsing! On Thursday, August 7 our Adult Craft Night crew will be making fantastic fabric flowers with Terry.  These sunflowers are sure to brighten your doors or walls with a warm summery feel.  Registration is now open. Check our event calendar for more information and for other offerings.  Don’t forget to log your reading hours!
